Who we are

Before launching SmartDrafts, our two-person core team has already helped thesis students, UN agencies, nonprofit organizations, and business clients in the United States and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The first member of our team is an American native English speaker with extensive writing and editing experience for academic, nonprofit, and business purposes, including award-nominated academic research for SIT Kunming, strategic business consulting, news articles, and many other projects. Our second team member is a native Kurdish speaker fluent in Arabic and English and brings over a decade of experience working in international organizations. She has written successful grants earning millions of dollars in EU funding and is an expert in grant writing, communications, and humanitarian reporting. Together, we have the expertise to help a wide variety of clients achieve their writing goals.

How we started

The idea that became SmartDrafts began in late 2023, with a message from a friend of a friend. “Hey, I heard you’re a good writer — can you help me proofread my thesis?” We were surprised but happy to take on the project. A few weeks later, another client reached out: “I heard you helped my friend; can you help me too?” From 2023-2025, projects continued coming in through word of mouth, with each satisfied client bringing in more recommendations. We edited theses and policy briefs, wrote grant proposals and marketing copy, and realized we truly enjoy helping people with our writing skills. In spring 2025, we decided it was time to expand, and SmartDrafts was born!
